Special Issue Announcement: "Cardio-Immunology – Beyond Infectious Heart Disease"

Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry is pleased to announce an upcoming Special Issue titled "Cardio-Immunology – Beyond Infectious Heart Disease", guest-edited by Prof. Kleinbongard and Prof. Heusch. The special issue „Cardio-immunology“ in this journal attempts to look at cardiac disease entities through the lens of immune involvement - beyond microbial infections.

Immune cells and the immune system are essentially involved in all kinds of myocardial injury:

  • The orchestration of inflammatory processes in atherosclerotic plaques
  • Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury infarct repair, and cardiac remodeling
  • Autoimmune contributions to pressure-overload-induced hypertrophy and dilated cardiomyopathy
  • Heart failure and myocarditis related to cancer therapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors

This issue aims to unravel the immune system's impact on cardiac pathophysiology, highlighting both adverse and beneficial outcomes, such as fibrosis versus angiogenesis.

We invite experts in the field to contribute their research and insights to this exciting enterprise.
